Agri-Food Energy Cost Savings Initiative Summary
The Agri-Food Energy Cost Savings Initiative provides funding to agri-food processors in Canada to increase energy efficiency in their operations, aiming to lower operational costs and enhance competitiveness. Eligible activities include purchasing energy-efficient equipment and technologies, improving water use efficiency, and enhancing building energy efficiency.
Agri-Food Energy Cost Savings Initiative Detailed Explanation
The Agri-Food Energy Cost Savings Initiative in Canada supports agri-food processors in implementing technologies and processes to boost energy efficiency and sustainability in their operations. The initiative offers funding to cover up to 20% of eligible costs, with a maximum of $300,000 per project. Processors can invest in energy-efficient equipment, water use technologies, and building envelope improvements to lessen operational costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Eligible activities under the initiative include the purchase or modification of equipment and technologies that enhance energy efficiency, water use equipment for improved energy efficiency, and energy monitoring controls. Costs related to building energy efficiency improvements like renewable energy, lighting, ventilation, and heating are also supported.
However, some activities are deemed ineligible for funding, such as equipment purchases that do not improve energy efficiency, non-energy-efficient building envelope improvements, and costs associated with operating expenses not directly related to energy efficiency projects.
To apply for the initiative, applicants must fill out a Ministry-approved application form and provide quotes detailing proposed eligible costs. Successful applicants will receive an approval letter specifying the maximum funding, eligible costs, and project completion deadlines. Once the project is complete, recipients must submit claims for eligible costs through the Ministry's claim portal, supported by valid invoices and proofs of payment.
Recipients are required to retain assets purchased with initiative payments for a minimum of two years and maintain appropriate insurance coverage during the project. The initiative also includes provisions for conflict resolution, debt collection, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Overall, the Agri-Food Energy Cost Savings Initiative aims to drive energy efficiency improvements, enhance competitiveness, and promote sustainability within the agri-food processing sector in Canada.
