Role of the Kiwanis Club of Toronto Foundation in the Funding Ecosystem
Founded in 1953, the Kiwanis Club of Toronto Foundation is a public foundation and registered charity (CRA number 105223051 RR0001) dedicated to funding programs and organizations that support children and youth in Toronto. The foundation receives its primary funding from generous donors and community members who wish to create a lasting legacy in the city.
Grant Programs
The foundation administers two main grant streams annually:
- Mentorship and Leadership Grant - Up to $10,000 each to support programs that develop leadership skills in children and youth, including decision-making, teamwork, goal setting, time management, and community involvement.
- Arts and Culture Grant - Up to $10,000 each to fund initiatives using arts as a tool for youth development and mental health support.
Additionally, the Community Impact Award (CIA) provides up to $40,000 in extra funding to an exceptional grant applicant demonstrating innovative programming impact.
Eligibility Criteria
Organizations must meet the following requirements to apply:
- Possess a Charitable Business Number
- Be located in the City of Toronto
- Support the welfare of children and youth
Scholarship Programs
The foundation also awards post-secondary scholarships including the Anne Wondolowski Scholarship and Jack Douglas Scholarship, administered in partnership with BGC Toronto Kiwanis.
Transparency and Accountability
As a registered public foundation, the Kiwanis Club of Toronto Foundation issues tax receipts for donations and maintains governance through its foundation board. Annual reports show consistent funding of over $200,000 distributed to charitable organizations across Toronto.
