Grant and Funding Programs Offered by Opération Enfant Soleil

Enfant Soleil is a Quebec-wide charitable non-profit dedicated to improving pediatric health services. Born from the Opération Enfant Soleil telethon movement in 1988, the organization mobilizes individuals, partners and communities to fund hospitals and organizations that care for children. Its role in the funding ecosystem is to channel public generosity into concrete projects that upgrade pediatric care, from regional hospitals to university children’s centres.

Each year, specialists who understand the pediatric field evaluate needs throughout Quebec. Based on these assessments, Enfant Soleil distributes funds to health establishments and community organizations according to priorities, levels of care and five main fields of action. The organization finances medical equipment, care programs, research projects, child-friendly treatment spaces and prevention and wellness initiatives. It supports more than one hundred hospitals and organizations as well as the four major pediatric university centres.

Since 1988, Enfant Soleil reports having distributed more than $337 million to improve pediatric services. In 2025 alone, it raised $30.1 million and financed 135 projects, providing support to over a hundred different institutions. Allocations are split between regional facilities, which receive a set share to strengthen local access to care, and specialized centres that treat complex and rare cases for children from all regions.

Funding targets the full continuum of care for children: more accessible local services, new or expanded treatments, faster access to essential care, lifesaving capacity, reduced hospitalizations, enhanced safety and greater comfort. Enfant Soleil also backs projects that promote physical activity, emotional well-being and long-term health, recognizing the broader determinants of child health.

The organization maintains partnerships with the Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services and regional networks to deliver projects such as neonatal equipment, specialized outpatient clinics and respite or coordination services for families. Stories highlighted on the site show how grants have enabled new regional allergy desensitization clinics, upgraded pediatric units and support services that ease the burden on parents.

Enfant Soleil positions itself as a financial ally of teams working in pediatrics. Through structured allocation processes and calls for projects, it invites health establishments, schools, daycares and pediatric organizations to request funding when their initiatives meet attribution criteria.
