Who is eligible?

  • Non-agricultural businesses (i.e., organizations that are not New Brunswick agricultural producers).
  • Agricultural operations located outside New Brunswick.

Eligible expenses

  • Losses of eligible crops and other eligible agricultural products damaged by wildlife.
  • Losses due to wildlife predation causing death or injury to eligible livestock.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Wildlife damage linked to poor farm management or neglect
  • Crop damage that is harvested before a Department inspection
  • Losses or damage that occurred before the date they are reported (no retroactive compensation)

Processing and Agreement

  • The Department reviews the reported loss/damage and confirms the cause or probable cause.
  • Department staff assess the damage/loss starting from the date it was reported (compensation is not retroactive).
  • For crop losses, Department staff inspect the damaged crops before they are harvested.
  • The New Brunswick Agricultural Insurance Commission (NBAIC) administers the file and determines compensation based on the assessment.

  • The cause or probable cause of the loss must be confirmed by the Department before compensation can be assessed.
  • Compensation is assessed from the date the damage or loss is reported and is not retroactive.
  • Damaged crops must not be harvested before an inspection is completed by Department staff.
