How to apply

  • Step 1: Report wildlife damage (timely notification)
    • Notify the Department within 72 hours of discovering the loss or damage.
    • Provide details of the loss or damage so the cause or probable cause can be confirmed by the Department.
  • Step 2: Arrange inspection and assessment (Department confirmation)
    • Allow Department staff to confirm the cause or probable cause of loss or death.
    • For crop damage, ensure damaged crops are not harvested prior to inspection by Department staff.
    • Work with the Department/NBAIC as compensation is assessed from the date the damage or loss is reported.
  • Step 3: Submit your compensation request to the program administrator (NBAIC / Industry Financial Programs)
    • Contact the Industry Financial Programs (Branch) to initiate/submit your request for compensation through the Wildlife Damage Compensation Program administered by the New Brunswick Agricultural Insurance Commission (NBAIC).
    • Send your request or questions by email to: DAAF-MAAP@gnb.ca.
    • Or contact by mail/in person at: Industry Financial Programs (Branch), 1350 Regent Street, Fredericton.

Processing and Agreement

  • The Department reviews the reported loss/damage and confirms the cause or probable cause.
  • Department staff assess the damage/loss starting from the date it was reported (compensation is not retroactive).
  • For crop losses, Department staff inspect the damaged crops before they are harvested.
  • The New Brunswick Agricultural Insurance Commission (NBAIC) administers the file and determines compensation based on the assessment.

  • The cause or probable cause of the loss must be confirmed by the Department before compensation can be assessed.
  • Compensation is assessed from the date the damage or loss is reported and is not retroactive.
