Who is eligible?
- Québec production companies producing feature-length fiction films.
Who is not eligible
- Broadcasting companies licensed under the Broadcasting Act (R.S.C., c. B-9), including companies that become licensees during the tax year of application, those that held such a license during the previous 24 months, and companies that control or are controlled by a licensee during that period, are not eligible or are only eligible under very specific conditions.
- Sole proprietorships do not qualify as Québec companies.
- Production companies with a minority interest in a broadcasting company, or in a company where a broadcaster holds a minority interest, may only access SODEC funds for productions not destined for broadcast by the related broadcaster during the first cycle of commercial exploitation.

Selection criteria
- Creative perspective: interest and originality of the proposal, screenplay quality, direction, producer vision, production company track record, production management quality, and audience potential in Québec and abroad.
- Financial perspective: progress of the financial structure, amount requested from SODEC relative to the budget, diversity of financial partners, and producer investment.
- Commercialization perspective: strategies and financial resources to ensure discoverability, accessibility, visibility, audience engagement, promotion, and distribution in Québec and abroad.
- For minority coproductions, SODEC also considers funding status, strategic agreements with a foreign partner, potential economic benefits, recoupment terms, company experience with foreign coproductions, creative elements, and audience potential.
How to apply
- Submit the application through the secure online portal SOD@ccès.
- Create a user profile if you are a new user, or enter your access codes.
- Select program number 20-13-01-01 for Component 1 – Selective assistance for the production of feature-length fiction films.
- Fill out the application form and upload all required documents.
Processing and Agreement
- SODEC reviews submitted projects and communicates its decisions in a timely manner.
- The terms, schedule, and obligations relating to payments are specified in the financial assistance agreement signed with SODEC.
- The company must submit a review engagement report or an audited report of final and actual production costs no later than 90 days after delivery of the production’s answer/master print, or by any other date specified by SODEC, and the report must include an independent auditor’s report.
- When submitting the final actual cost report, the production company must provide a detailed itemized breakdown of production costs, including a list of costs incurred outside Québec.
- The applicant company must deposit a free copy of the final version of the production with the Cinémathèque québécoise within six months of the first public showing.
