Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Owners and operators of industrial, commercial, institutional and multi-family residential buildings
  • Persons with the rights and authority to have the Measures installed
  • Social Housing Providers for the Social Housing Adder or SHP Advance Incentive

Eligible expenses

  • Costs of the equipment purchased
  • Costs of labour for equipment installed by a third party
  • Costs of energy audits not funded by the IESO
  • Costs of design, engineering and/or architecture
  • Third party project management costs

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Costs of the Participant's labour, service, administration or overhead that are not incurred by a third party
  • Financing costs including, but not limited to, costs associated with financing, leasing and lease-to-own procurement arrangements and such other financing costs associated with leasing or borrowing capital
  • Insurance costs
  • Costs associated with post-installation work related to equipment maintenance or repair
  • HST

Selection criteria

  • The IESO would like to thank you for your submissions. Each measure submitted for consideration to the Save on Energy Retrofit program is reviewed and screened.
  • The evaluation of the submissions involves an in-depth, multi-stage review and approval process to ensure a measure addresses market needs and meets program requirements, including cost-effectiveness, and energy-efficiency policy objectives.

How to apply

  • Applications are submitted through the Retrofit portal.
  • Please upload your invoice to the Retrofit portal.
  • You can check out this brief video “Submitting a Final Invoice” for steps on how to upload your invoice.

Processing and Agreement

  • Once your application has been submitted it will be assigned to a technical reviewer.
  • The pre-approval process will take about two to three weeks to complete.
  • During this time, you will receive either a formal notice via the Retrofit portal and/or your Save on Energy representative that your project has been pre-approved, or your technical reviewer may notify you that your application requires further documentary evidence to support the application.
  • Mandatory QA/QC is required for projects that exceed $20,000 in incentive value.
  • Some applications for small projects that fall under these incentive amounts may be selected at random for QA/QC during the pre-approval and/or post-approval process.

Additional information

  • Applications are submitted through the Retrofit Portal.
  • Retrofit program applications for lighting measures that have been submitted for pre-approval prior to or on December 17, 2023, and receive pre-approval by December 31, 2024 will continue to be eligible to receive the Retrofit program incentive after program requirements are met.
  • Participants may choose either the Retrofit program or the Instant Discounts program, but not both for the same project.
  • If you had an existing account in the previous system, you must reactivate your account using the same email address used for your previous account.

How much funding can be received?

Retrofit Program — Prescriptive Stream Funds up to 50% of admissible expenses, capped at $250,000 per project.

Who is eligible for the Retrofit Program — Prescriptive Stream program?

To be eligible for the Retrofit Program — Prescriptive Stream program, you must: The participant must be a Non-Residential Customer or Recognized Farm Operation. The participant must not have previously entered into a binding commitment to acquire the Measures or services required to install the Measures, unless the IESO waives this requirement in the stated circumstances. A project must be completed, and receive Participant Incentive Invoice Approval by the applicable Participant Incentive Invoice Approval Deadline.
