Overview of the PROMPT — GHG Reduction – SME Component program
The PROMPT — GHG Reduction – SME Component provides up to $450,000 in financial assistance to support innovative projects by Quebec SMEs aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The program funds the development or significant improvement of products or processes that demonstrate a strong potential for GHG reduction and commercial deployment.
Financing terms and conditions
- Maximum financial assistance of $450,000 per project per year.
- Funding covers up to 50% of the total eligible project costs.
- The applicant SME must contribute at least 20% of the eligible expenses.
- Management fees equal to 5% of total eligible expenditures apply.
- Project duration is limited to a maximum of 2 years.

- Development of new products or processes that significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Quebec.
- Significant improvement of existing products or processes to achieve higher GHG reduction potential.
- Collaborative innovation projects aiming to introduce breakthrough solutions for GHG reduction.
- Implementation of clean technologies with proven commercial or large-scale deployment potential.
- Development of intellectual property related to new GHG-reducing technologies.
Eligibility criteria of the PROMPT — GHG Reduction – SME Component program
- The applicant must be a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) with 250 employees or fewer, registered and operating in Quebec.
- The project must be submitted by a Quebec-based SME conducting internal production or R&D activities.
- The project must demonstrate a potential to reduce or avoid at least 100,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions in Quebec over the first ten years following commercialization.
- The project must be developed in collaboration with another Quebec company, an eligible user organization, or a public research institution in Quebec.
- The project must involve the development of a new product or process, or a significant improvement to an existing one, and offer a clear innovation advantage compared to current market solutions.
Who is eligible?
- Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with 250 employees or fewer, established in Quebec
- Businesses of any size incorporated under federal or Quebec law and registered with the Quebec Business Registry, with operations in Quebec
- Public research institutes in Quebec
- Non-profit organizations (NPOs) or cooperatives incorporated under federal or Quebec law and registered with the Quebec Business Registry, with operations in Quebec
- Hydro-Québec and its subsidiaries

- Companies established and operating in Quebec.
Eligibility criteria of the PROMPT — GHG Reduction – SME Component program
- Demonstrated strong potential for reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Quebec (minimum of 100,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent reduced or avoided over the first 10 years following commercialization).
- Level of innovation, with the product or process offering a decisive advantage compared to existing market solutions and the sector at the national or international level.
- Presence of technological or business risk or uncertainty for the SME.
- Significant commercial potential or potential for large-scale deployment if the product or process is intended for sale.
How to apply to the PROMPT — GHG Reduction – SME Component program

- Provide required contact information and details regarding your inquiry or project.
- Step 2: Prepare Project Proposal
- Develop a comprehensive project proposal outlining your innovation, objectives for GHG reduction, and the collaborative structure of your project.
- Include details on anticipated GHG emission reductions and the innovative nature of the product or process.
- Gather all necessary documentation as required by Prompt for assessment.
- Step 3: Submit Application
- Submit your completed application package, including the project proposal and supporting documents, following the instructions provided by your Prompt advisor.
- Ensure submission before the set deadline (Autumn 2025; exact date to be determined).
- Step 4: Pay Management Fees
- Prepare to pay management fees equivalent to 5% of eligible project expenses upon submission or approval, as stipulated by Prompt.
