The Program to support the processing of end-of-life tires offers a financial aid limited to $115 per ton for eligible activities such as reuse, recycling, and energy recovery. This grant aims to manage seasonal peaks in tire disposal by supporting treatment centers in Quebec and other regions including Ontario, the Maritimes, and the North-East United States.
grant_single_labels|terms_and_conditions
- RECYC-QUÉBEC offers financial assistance per tire processed based on the type of end-of-life tires and the level of processing according to the 3Rs hierarchy.
- For recycling, the financial aid is $115 per tonne for small automobile tires, and $75 per tonne for truck tires.
- For energy recovery, the financial aid is $60 per tonne for small and automobile truck tires, and $150 per tonne for dirty tires.
- The center must deduct a seasonal reduction percentage from the weight of the delivered tires, accounting for dirt, water, ice, and contaminants.
- Financial aid is provided monthly upon submission of satisfactory proof of delivery (weighing slips) and processing of end-of-life tires.
- RECYC-QUÉBEC reserves the right to suspend or halt payments in case of undue accumulation beyond the planned capacity or if monitoring demands aren't satisfactorily met.
- No guaranteed quantity of tires will be allocated, limiting the processed quantity to 10,000 tonnes per year per treatment center per agreement.
- Assistance may stop if the program requirements, including the time-limit considerations, aren't met or if the reduction percentages need recalibration.
- The entire amount of financial assistance depends on the fulfillment of contractual obligations and processes.

- The program is managed by RECYC-QUÉBEC, which has been overseeing tire recovery and treatment since 1993 with the aim of promoting re-moulding, recycling, and the development of these industries in a circular economy.
- Funding is sourced from a specific levy: $4.50 for each automotive tire and $6 for each truck tire, applied upon the sale or lease of new tires or vehicles equipped with them in Quebec.
- There are seasonal fluctuations in end-of-life tire generation, leading to occasional surpluses requiring management intervention by processing centers.
- Quantities allocated to processing centers are capped at 10,000 tonnes per year and are not guaranteed, even after acceptance of a proposal.
- RECYC-QUÉBEC considers sustainable development principles when managing this program, including environmental protection and the internalization of costs.
- RECYC-QUÉBEC requires compliance with administrative and operational measures to ensure proper program management, including conditions for reception of tires and environmental standards.
- Failure to adhere to program requirements may lead to suspension or termination of financial assistance agreements.
