The Planning New Opportunities Program provides support to farms, Mi'kmaq communities engaged in farming, agri-businesses, and agriculture industry associations to enhance competitiveness, manage transitions, and develop risk management strategies. Eligibility criteria include being properly registered under the Farm Registration Act, meeting minimum income thresholds, and actively participating in the respective field.
- For farms:
- Registered in correct income category under the Farm Registration Act
- An annual eligible gross commodity income of at least $30,000
- Minimum age of 19 and active farming during the program year
- For agri-businesses:
- Represent Nova Scotia agriculture and agri-food products
- An annual eligible agri-business income of at least $30,000
- Value-added processing of a raw Nova Scotia agriculture product with significant economic impact
- For agriculture industry associations:
- Demonstrate non-profit status

- Farms: Must be properly registered under the Farm Registration Act, have a minimum annual gross commodity income of $30,000, and actively farm in the program year.
- Agri-businesses: Represent Nova Scotia agriculture products, generate a minimum annual agri-business income of $30,000, and conduct value-added processing with significant economic impact.
- Agriculture Industry Associations: Must demonstrate non-profit status.
