The Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Program’s Events component supports Canadian not-for-profit organizations, municipalities with populations of up to 10,000, Indigenous organizations, and Indigenous governments to deliver community-based events that advance inclusion, anti-racism, and intercultural understanding across Canada. Eligible activities include public discussions on multiculturalism, diversity, racism and religious discrimination, and celebrations of community history and culture.

Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Canadian not-for-profit organizations, associations and unincorporated groups
  • Canadian incorporated and unincorporated municipalities and townships with a population of up to 10,000
  • Indigenous not-for-profit organizations (First Nations, Inuit and Métis)
  • Indigenous governments, band councils and tribal councils

Who is not eligible

  • Organizations and individuals that adopt racist, antisemitic and other forms of hateful content.

Eligible expenses

  • Salaries and benefits
  • Consultant fees
  • Speakers, performers and artists fees and expenses
  • Travel, accommodation, insurance, translation, communications, venue and setup costs
  • Administrative and overhead costs up to 15%

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Board fees, annual general meetings, and regular board meeting costs
  • Ongoing publication or broadcast costs
  • Capital costs, start-up costs, and operational costs
  • International travel
  • Food and beverages, and political or religious partisan activities

Selection criteria

  • Funding priority may be given to initiatives that support community-led efforts to counter hate, misinformation, and polarization by fostering dialogue, mutual understanding, and civic engagement.
  • Funding priority may be given to initiatives that foster human connection, civic participation, and a shared sense of belonging through inclusive and interactive gatherings across the country.

How to apply

  • Contact your Canadian Heritage regional office for a copy of the Application Form and Budget Form.
  • Complete, sign and date the Application Form.
  • Complete the Budget Form.
  • Attach all the required supporting documents.
  • Submit your application by email.

Processing and Agreement

  • An official acknowledgment letter is issued within two weeks of submission.
  • If you do not receive the acknowledgment letter within 2 weeks, contact the Program as soon as possible.
  • Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered for funding.
