Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Canadian not-for-profit organizations, associations, and unincorporated groups
  • Canadian public institutions
  • Provincial, territorial, regional, and municipal governments and agencies
  • Indigenous not-for-profit organizations
  • Indigenous governments, band councils, and tribal councils

Who is not eligible

  • Organizations that discriminate or promote intolerance, prejudice, or offensive content
  • Organizations that undermine Canada’s Anti-Racism Strategy
  • Organizations that undermine the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms or the Canadian Human Rights Act

Eligible expenses

  • Salaries and benefits
  • Consultant fees
  • Office and equipment rental for the project
  • Communications, publicity, and promotional materials
  • Domestic travel, accommodation, hospitality, insurance, conference costs, evaluation, audit, facility rental, speakers’ fees, and overhead

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Board or governing body fees
  • Capital costs, including renovations and computer equipment unless essential
  • Annual general meetings and regular board meetings
  • Ongoing production of newsletters, newspapers, magazines, journals, radio or TV broadcasts
  • Fundraising activities and religious or politically partisan activities

  • Clear project design and relevance to program objectives.
  • Identified need, added value, and community involvement.
  • Realistic, measurable results and reporting approach.
  • Detailed, balanced, and reasonable budget.
  • Proven capacity to deliver the project.

How to apply

  • Step 1: Request the application package
    • Contact the program to obtain the application package.
    • Read the guidelines in full before preparing the application.
  • Step 2: Complete the application package
    • Fill out, sign, and date the application form.
    • Complete the budget form.
    • Attach all required supporting documents.
  • Step 3: Submit by email
    • Send the complete package by email to the program address.
    • Use signed attachments only; links to file-sharing sites are not accepted.
    • Ensure the email is sent by the deadline.
  • Step 4: Wait for confirmation
    • Look for an acknowledgment of receipt within two weeks.
    • If no acknowledgment is received, contact the program.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed by a committee against the program criteria.
  • Eligibility and funding amounts are decided by the department and are final.
  • Applicants receive an acknowledgment of receipt within two weeks.
  • If approved as a contribution, a funding agreement is signed before payment.
  • Interim reports and final reports may be required after approval.

Additional information

  • Only one application may be submitted.
  • Funding cannot be used for the same activities funded under other MARP components.
  • Applicants must keep records for five years for audit purposes.
  • Funding decisions are final.
