Financing terms and conditions

Eligibility

- Adaptations covered by other financial assistance programs or insurance are not eligible.
- Certified private senior residences accommodating nine or fewer individuals, along with family-type residences, are eligible for certain adaptation works.
Who is eligible?
The Residential Adaptation Assistance Program (RAAP) is designed for individuals who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents with significant and persistent disabilities that require modifications to facilitate essential daily activities. Therefore, eligibility is focused on individuals rather than specific companies or industries. Additionally, eligible housing must be the primary residence, and if rented, the owner must consent to the adaptations. This means companies or industries do not apply to this grant.

Additional information
- The local ecocentre in Bedford will close on November 10, 2024, and will not reopen in 2025. Applicants should be aware of this change if coordination for materials or disposal services is necessary.
- Access to the regional ecocentre in Cowansville is available six days a week, year-round, which might be relevant for sourcing or disposing of materials needed for adaptation works.
- Financial assistance is available up to a maximum of $50,000 per eligible person, with specific caps for different types of work, such as $12,000 for external access works and another $12,000 for internal adaptations.
- Option 2 allows for retroactive financial assistance for qualifying works completed up to 12 months prior to the application's receipt.
- Specialized equipment such as platform lifts, stair lifts, and rail-mounted lifts may be eligible for funding upon recommendation by an occupational therapist.
