Overview
The Maritime, Air, and Rail Transportation Efficiency Program – Pilot Project Component provides non-repayable funding of up to $1 million per project to support the testing and demonstration of new technologies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime, air, and rail sectors. Eligible activities include the design, adaptation, manufacturing, installation, or testing of innovations that improve energy efficiency and promote emissions reduction.

Eligibility
- The applicant must be involved in the maritime, air, or rail transportation sector.
- The project must focus on the design, adaptation, manufacturing, installation, or testing of new technologies or technological applications that aim to reduce or avoid greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the maritime, air, or rail sectors.
- The applicant may be a local or regional community, a private enterprise, or another eligible organization (including non-profits and cooperatives), depending on the project type and information outcomes.
- The project must contribute to improving energy efficiency or the electrification of maritime, air, or rail transportation.

Eligible expenses
- Design, adaptation, manufacturing, installation, or testing costs of new technologies or technological applications aimed at reducing or avoiding GHG emissions.
- Expenses related to the electrification of transportation, including infrastructure and equipment acquisition or upgrades.
- Environmental and engineering studies, including those related to climate change adaptation and the long-term reduction of GHG emissions.
- Costs for development plans focused on GHG emission reduction and identifying efficiency projects in maritime, air, or rail transport.
- Incremental costs of purchasing carbon-neutral fuels (such as biofuels or green hydrogen) for pilot testing purposes.

How to apply

- Step 2: Contact the Ministry (if needed)
- Direct any questions or requests for additional information to the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility as indicated in the grant documentation.
- Step 3: Prepare Application Dossier
- Compile a comprehensive application including a project description, expected impacts on greenhouse gas reduction, and supporting documents such as budgets, timelines, and technical details.
- Include information about the type of organization, project category, and expected public accessibility of results.
- Step 4: Submit Application
- Submit the complete application to the Ministry as per the process outlined in the official program documentation. (Note: At present, no new applications are being accepted until further notice.)
Additional information
- The program is currently not accepting new applications due to the allocated budget being reached.
- The program supports the government's priority on electrification of transportation to address climate change.
- An initial payment of 25% of the financial aid may be provided to eligible non-profit organizations, cooperatives, and local/regional communities after agreement signatures.
- Environmental and engineering studies, including those related to climate change adaptation, are eligible under the program.
