Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for the IDEANorth program are based on considerations related to the applicant's capacity and engagement with economic development in the North.

  • Applicants can be businesses or other public or private organizations.
  • Priority is given to underrepresented groups, including Indigenous people, women, and youth.
  • Applicants should demonstrate proven capacity to deliver projects in the North.
  • Applicants must show interest or engagement in territorial economic development.

Who is eligible?

This program supports businesses and other public or private organizations with an emphasis on ensuring equitable access to funding to underrepresented groups such as Indigenous people, women and youth. Investments will help strengthen existing economic sectors and develop new economic sectors with the goal of enhancing and diversifying economic activity throughout the territories. Priority will be given to recipients who can demonstrate proven capacity to deliver projects in the North and who can demonstrate interest/engagement in territorial economic development.

Who is not eligible

There are certain types of companies that may not be eligible for this grant:

  • Companies outside the defined territories of Canada's North
  • Companies that do not have a focus on economic development and sector advancement in the North

This grant supports projects and activities that enhance economic infrastructure and promote sector development in Northern Canada. The eligible initiatives aim to foster economic growth, improve business productivity, and support foundational infrastructure in the territories.
