  • Organizations that are not municipalities or planning service agencies.
  • Host municipalities and planning service agencies seeking to hire an existing or recent employee as their municipal intern, except if the employee worked as a summer student, casual employee, or co-op student.

Eligible expenses

  • Intern compensation, including salary, benefits, and payroll deductions.
  • Recruitment costs for hiring an intern.
  • Relocation expenses for the intern.
  • Professional development costs, such as training, courses, and conference attendance.
  • Safety equipment needed for the intern's role.
  • Association membership fees related to the internship.
  • Electronic equipment required for the intern.
  • Travel costs for supervisors to attend in-person internship workshops.

How to apply

  • Step 1: Access the Application Portal
    • Go to the Alberta Community Partnership Online portal to begin your application.
  • Step 2: Prepare Organizational Details and Partnerships
    • Outline the role your municipality or planning service agency will play in hosting an intern.
    • If partnering with other municipalities, designate a Managing Partner and clarify each partner’s responsibilities (for formal partnerships).
    • Include information about informal partnership plans, if applicable.
  • Step 3: Complete Grant Application
    • Fill out the online application form with required information about your organization’s capacity, training opportunities, supervisory arrangements, and resource commitments.
    • Indicate the stream(s) you intend to host: Administrator, Finance Officer, or Land Use Planner.
    • Outline proposed activities and support for the intern per program requirements.
  • Step 4: Submit Application by Deadline
    • Review your application for completeness and accuracy.
    • Submit the grant application through Alberta Community Partnership Online by midnight, October 24, 2025.
