Overview of the Doing business in French program

The "Doing business in French" program offers 100% government-funded French language training for allophone and anglophone employees of SMEs with 25 employees or fewer in select Quebec regions. The initiative supports workplace francization through online, personalized courses to strengthen employees’ French skills and facilitate business integration into Quebec’s francophone economy.

Financing terms and conditions

  • 100% funding for tailored French workplace training, offered at no cost to eligible SMEs.

  • Delivery of customized French language training programs for allophone and anglophone employees in the workplace.
  • Implementation of online workplace French courses to support business francization.
  • Facilitation of professional integration and collaboration through language skill improvement.

Eligibility criteria of the Doing business in French program

  • The business must have 25 employees or fewer.
  • The company must be located in one of the following regions: Outaouais, Estrie, Montérégie, or Capitale-Nationale.
  • The business must operate in the manufacturing, food processing, agriculture, professional, scientific, or technical services sectors.
  • At least one employee must be an allophone or anglophone interested in improving their French for the workplace.

Who is not eligible

  • Businesses located outside of Outaouais, Estrie, Montérégie, or Capitale-Nationale regions.
  • Companies in sectors other than manufacturing, food processing, agriculture, professional, scientific, or technical services.
  • Businesses where no team member wishes to improve their French at work.
  • Companies with more than 25 employees.
  • Business owners or shareholders seeking training for themselves rather than their employees.

Eligible expenses

  • Online French language training courses for eligible employees, delivered by Université de Sherbrooke.
  • Personalized ongoing support and guidance throughout the training period.
  • Language assessment conducted to determine French proficiency levels of participating staff.

How to apply to the Doing business in French program

  • Step 1: Complete Interest or Registration Form
    • Fill out the online interest or registration form to express your company’s intent to participate in the program.
    • Ensure all information provided is accurate and complete.
  • Step 2: Connect with a Program Advisor
    • After submitting the form, a Développer des affaires en français advisor will contact you by email.
    • Schedule a brief meeting to discuss your business needs and training objectives.
  • Step 3: Take Language Assessment
    • Participate in a language assessment conducted by the Université de Sherbrooke to determine the French proficiency level of participating employees.

Additional information

  • Training is delivered online by the Université de Sherbrooke.
  • Sessions are available both live and self-paced, during the day or evening.
  • Small group learning is used to encourage interaction among participants.
  • There is ongoing personalized support for enrolled employees.
