Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Canadian companies, not-for-profit organizations, individuals, and collectives
  • Applicants must be active in B.C.’s music industry and located in Canada
  • Research companies, consultants, and academic institutions are eligible when they demonstrate significant involvement from industry partnerships and support from music industry stakeholders

Who is not eligible

  • Municipalities and other levels of government
  • Individuals and companies located outside of Canada
  • Applicants who have previously received funding from this program and have not submitted all prior Music Industry Initiatives final reports, except for research projects

Eligible expenses

  • Costs associated with childcare

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Costs associated with export and trade missions, and projects or events that have already occurred
  • Ceremonies, award shows, fundraisers, luncheons, receptions, mixers, galas, parties, and alcohol
  • Live music presentation activities, unless the showcase has clear business development goals and outcomes
  • Songwriting, sound recordings, and music videos, unless they occur within a larger industry-driven mentorship or skills development project and are not music intended for commercial release
  • Business development activities that primarily benefit one company and its artist roster, clients and/or business partners

Selection criteria

  • Industry Development: the project builds capacity or addresses a need or gap in B.C.’s music industry, reaches a broad section of the industry, and demonstrates collaboration or meaningful partnerships
  • Investment in B.C. Talent: the project supports the knowledge, growth, and development of B.C. artists and music industry professionals
  • Economic Impact and Innovation: the project creates new business opportunities locally and abroad, supports industry growth, and informs innovation or evolving business practices
  • Justice, Equity, Decolonization, Diversity + Inclusion: the project promotes equity, expands representation, and supports underserved regions or groups through authentic partnerships
  • Capacity: the applicant’s ability, knowledge, track record or experience, and whether the plan and budget are appropriate for the project

How to apply

  • Submit a short project summary through the online application form on the program page
  • If the project fits the goals of the program, Creative BC will invite the applicant to submit a full application

Processing and Agreement

  • Creative BC staff will respond to all project summary submissions within three weeks of receipt
  • Eligible projects that meet the program goals will receive full application materials, and an invitation is not a guarantee of future funding
  • Before the full submission, applicants may receive staff feedback on specific questions or gaps to address
  • Results will be communicated to all applicants approximately ten weeks after full application submission
  • Feedback will be available for all applicants

  • Applicants must disclose and describe any use of AI on application materials and on Creative BC supported projects
