  • Organizations without incorporation or registration
  • Applicants without GBV experience
  • Projects that intend to generate profit, where that is not allowed by the stream requirements

Eligible expenses

  • Salaries and benefits for project staff
  • Honoraria and professional fees
  • Materials and supplies
  • Travel, translation, training, and outreach costs
  • Administrative costs such as office space, telephones, IT maintenance, and accounting

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Formal evaluation of existing projects or programs
  • Projects that only use quantitative research methods
  • Sub-contracting the entire project to an outside party
  • Activities outside Canada
  • General operating costs, capital costs, and debt-related expenses

Selection criteria

  • The application shows that the organization can manage and support the project
  • The application identifies needs that are relevant to the call for proposals and shows the organization considered the results of their GBA Plus
  • The application demonstrates that the populations who will benefit from the project will be involved in the project
  • The project objectives align with the call for proposals objective and the research methods are sound, appropriate, and comprehensive
  • The work plan and application provide a clear description of each activity, the activities are eligible and measurable, the work plan provides clear and feasible timelines, and proposals from organizations representative of the population they serve or addressing any other gap may be prioritized

How to apply

  • Step 1: Create an ONAIS account
    • Open an account in the Online Application and Intake System.
    • Use the ONAIS user guide to set up and manage the account.
  • Step 2: Complete the application
    • Enter organization information, contacts, and mandate details.
    • Prepare project information, work plan, and budget.
  • Step 3: Submit online
    • Review the application in ONAIS.
    • Submit the application through the system before the deadline.
  • Step 4: Keep confirmation and follow-up
    • Check the account email for receipt confirmation.
    • Wait for any follow-up or requests for more information.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed only if they are eligible and complete
  • Eligible proposals are assessed against the call’s criteria and objectives
  • Decisions are communicated by email by the Minister for Women and Gender Equality
  • If approved, a program officer contacts the applicant and an agreement must be signed before work begins
  • Approved projects must submit progress and final reports under the funding agreement

  • Organizations can only apply once.
  • Projects must include ethics approval before research begins.
  • Applicants are encouraged to take the free GBA Plus course before applying.
  • Funded projects may require progress and final reporting under the agreement.
