The Business Rebate Program provides up to 25% back on eligible project costs, with a lifetime cap of $250,000 per project site, to help businesses in New Brunswick invest in energy-efficient products and equipment. The program supports activities such as lighting, HVAC, motors, refrigeration, and kitchen equipment upgrades that reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.

Financing terms and conditions

  • Rebate covers 25% of eligible project costs.
  • Maximum lifetime cap is $250,000 per eligible project site.
  • Incentives are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are depleted.

  • Upgrading lighting, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems to more energy efficient models in business facilities.
  • Renovating commercial kitchens with energy-saving equipment.
  • Implementing high-efficiency water heating systems.
  • Modernizing refrigeration systems to reduce energy use.
  • Adopting advanced motor and control technologies to improve overall facility energy efficiency.

Eligibility criteria of the Business Rebate Program program

  • Applicant must own or operate a business located in New Brunswick.
  • Business must be classified under Small Industrial, General Service 1, or General Service 2 Rate Schedules; agricultural buildings (including farms) and places of worship are also eligible.
  • Applicant must have authorization to approve installation of equipment at the project site.
  • The project must involve the replacement of existing equipment with approved energy-efficient products that reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Pre-approval from the program is required before starting any project or incurring costs.

Who is eligible?

  • Small industrial businesses in New Brunswick
  • Businesses under General Service 1 or General Service 2 rate schedules
  • Agricultural businesses, including farms
  • Places of worship
  • Businesses in New Brunswick with similar utility rate classes as specified above

Who is not eligible

  • Buildings owned by the federal government.
  • Customers classified under the Large Industrial Rate Schedule.

Eligible expenses

  • External project management costs.
  • Purchase and installation of approved energy-efficient equipment.
  • Disposal and decommissioning of replaced equipment.
  • Project inspections required for legal or regulatory compliance.
  • Shipping, delivery, duties, and costs related to getting equipment to the project site.
  • Consultant fees directly involved in project design, selection, purchase, and installation, including professional, engineering, scientific, technical, management, contracting, and employee training services.
  • Additional study costs or other costs pre-approved by NB Power.

Eligibility criteria of the Business Rebate Program program

  • Obtaining prior mandatory approval before the project's start or any incurred expenses.
  • Compliance with the multi-step procedure, including the submission of the online form, the development of the project plan, the request for pre-approval, and the request for payment after the completion of the work.
  • Complete submission of required documents, including the submission of supporting documents for reimbursement.

How to apply to the Business Rebate Program program

  • Step 1: Apply Online
    • Complete the online registration form at the designated website.
    • Have your electric utility account number available to finalize the application.
    • Contact NB Power for support if needed (phone or email provided on the program's official site).
  • Step 2: Develop Project Scope
    • Define the description of work and obtain supporting quotes for the estimated cost of the proposed project.
    • Ensure all proposed work and equipment align with program requirements.
    • Contact program staff if clarification is needed.
  • Step 3: Obtain Project Pre-Approval
    • Receive a pre-approval form from NB Power after project scope submission.
    • Complete and submit the pre-approval form as instructed.
    • Do not begin any project work or incur costs until official pre-approval is granted by NB Power program staff.
    • A pre-project site visit may be required before approval.
  • Step 4: Implement the Project
    • Upon receiving written pre-approval, commence with the purchase and installation of approved equipment as outlined in your project scope.
  • Step 5: Submit Incentive Claim
    • Once project work is complete, submit all required incentive claim documentation to NB Power.
    • A post-project site visit may be requested for verification purposes.
  • Step 6: Receive Incentive Payment
    • After review and approval of your claim, NB Power will process the incentive payment by direct deposit or e-Transfer, typically within 60 days.
