What else should I know about Union des producteurs agricoles (UPA)?

Founded in 1924, the Union des producteurs agricoles (UPA) is the exclusive accredited voice for farm and forest producers in Quebec. As a democratic and professional organization, its mission is to promote, defend, and develop the economic, social, and moral interests of its members. The UPA’s dual structure—comprising 12 regional federations and over 25 specialized groups—allows it to address both territorial issues and sector-specific marketing challenges through collective joint plans. The organization provides a comprehensive suite of professional services, including specialized legal and accounting counsel, human resources management, and mental health support for farming families. A key advocate for sustainable development and land protection, the UPA works to adapt agriculture to climate change while maintaining high standards for food sovereignty. Through UPA International Development, it also promotes sustainable agri-food systems worldwide. While financed by mandatory dues to ensure fairness and collective bargaining power, over 90% of Quebec producers choose to be voluntary, voting members.
