Schulich Builders represents a significant investment by The Schulich Foundation to address Canada's skilled trades shortage. General Evaluation Criteria for Applications

Students are selected based on strong work ethic and character (evidenced by a letter of recommendation) and financial need as determined by each participating college. Applicants must be Canadian citizens enrolling in a full-time eligible skilled trades program at one of the 12 participating colleges.

The program is administered through Ontario's college system, with each college managing its own application process and selecting recipients. Winners are confirmed by July 31 each year, and the complete list of recipients is published publicly on the program website.

History and Evolution of the Organization

The Schulich Foundation was established by Seymour Schulich, one of Canada's greatest philanthropists who holds the Order of Canada. The Foundation has committed over $500 million to philanthropic endeavors and has endowed faculties of business, engineering, medicine, law, education, music, chemistry, nursing, and dentistry at universities. Schulich Builders was launched in February 2023 as the Foundation's largest initiative in the skilled trades sector.

Supported Audiences and Overall Impact

The program supports students enrolling in one-year certificate programs ($20,000) or two-year diploma programs ($40,000) across 12 Ontario colleges: Algonquin, Cambrian, Centennial, Conestoga, Durham, Fanshawe, George Brown, Georgian, Humber, Loyalist, Mohawk, and Sheridan. Over 360 students have received scholarships through the program since its launch.
