Role of the Ocean Ranger Disaster Fund in the Funding Ecosystem
The Ocean Ranger Disaster Fund is a memorial fund established to honor the memory of the 84 crew members who lost their lives when the Ocean Ranger Exploratory Drilling Platform sank on February 15, 1982. The fund provides annual financial awards to support post-secondary education for affected families.
General Evaluation Criteria for Applications
Preference is given to widows and lineal descendants (children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren) of Ocean Ranger disaster victims. In the absence of eligible candidates from this group, the award may be given to other full-time students at the discretion of the Ocean Ranger Award Selection Committee.
Application Process
Applicants must submit a completed application form along with supporting documents including academic transcripts, proof of post-secondary registration, and documentation certifying eligibility as a spouse or lineal descendant of an Ocean Ranger victim (affidavit witnessed by a Commissioner of Oaths or Notary Public).
