Québec Circulaire was created to accelerate Quebec’s shift toward a circular economy. Launched in 2018 as an initiative of the Quebec Circular Economy Consultation Hub, it was supported early on by government, industry, academic and nonprofit stakeholders. As a flagship project, its mission is to bring together the many initiatives, tools, and expertise in circular economy by creating a central point of convergence essential to the transition. In just a few years, Québec Circulaire has become the go-to platform for circular economy in Quebec, uniting knowledge, resources, and key players around a shared vision.
To fulfill its mission, Québec Circulaire deploys a wide range of initiatives. It mobilizes stakeholders by offering opportunities for collaboration and recognition, through events, calls for projects and awards that highlight exemplary initiatives. It performs strategic monitoring and shares news, events and updates on the circular economy locally and globally. It also acts as a networking hub, connecting businesses, municipalities, researchers and citizens interested in circular practices. As part of a wider international network, it facilitates the exchange of best practices and showcases Quebec’s successes.
Knowledge sharing is at the heart of its activities. The platform offers a toolbox of educational content, an interactive map of circular initiatives across Quebec, inspiring case studies, and an events calendar. It works closely with academic institutions and research networks to drive innovation and track progress. Québec Circulaire also contributes to skill development by supporting or offering training opportunities, such as a massive open online course and a multidisciplinary summer school. In addition, it provides support to businesses and communities through access to experts, practical guides, and a comprehensive funding directory. This directory gathers public funding programs from all levels of government and helps project leaders find the right financial and technical support to bring their initiatives to life.
As a mandatary of financial support programs, Québec Circulaire plays an intermediary role between public policy and community needs. It manages certain funding initiatives aligned with the main priorities of the circular transition. These programs aim to encourage the adoption of green and circular business practices, support innovative waste reduction and resource recovery projects, and foster the growth of emerging circular enterprises. By ensuring funds are distributed effectively and offering guidance throughout the process, Québec Circulaire maximizes the impact of public investment and strengthens the capacity of change agents on the ground.
