Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Municipal and regional governments
  • Provincial and territorial governments
  • Public bodies such as transit agencies and school boards
  • Indigenous governing bodies and Indigenous development corporations
  • Private school bus and accessible transit operators in partnership with a public partner

Who is not eligible

  • Standalone private school bus operators without a public partnership
  • Standalone private accessible transit operators without a public partnership
  • Projects based on diesel buses or fossil-fuel-dependent infrastructure
  • Projects relying on natural gas vehicles or hybrid buses

Eligible expenses

  • Bus acquisition
  • Charging and refuelling equipment
  • New or upgraded support facilities
  • Warranty costs, external training, Indigenous consultation, climate assessments, and project controls

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Land and building purchases
  • Diesel bus acquisition or maintenance
  • Normal operating, maintenance, electricity, and fuel costs
  • Natural gas vehicle and fossil-fuel-dependent infrastructure
  • Hydrogen production off-site and related fuel transport costs

How to apply

  • Step 1: Submit a Declaration of Interest through the applicant portal or by email if portal access is not available
  • Step 2: If invited, complete the appropriate Phase II application form
  • Step 3: Attach supporting documents and send the application by email to the program inbox
  • Step 4: Await review, follow-up questions, and written notification of the decision

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed for eligibility and merit
  • Infrastructure Canada may request additional information
  • Applicants are notified in writing of the results
  • Approved projects require a contribution agreement before funding
  • Projects may also be reviewed by the Canada Infrastructure Bank
