Selection criteria
- Applicant meets all eligibility requirements.
- Application is complete.
- Evidence supports predation by an eligible wildlife species.
- Animal or colony was healthy before the incident.
- Reasonable care was taken to prevent predation.
How to apply
- Step 1: Report the incident and notify the municipality or Ministry within the required timeline.
- Submit the incident details through the eServices portal or to the municipality.
- Take photos and preserve the site and carcass until inspection.
- Step 2: Inspection and evidence collection
- Allow the investigator to inspect the site and document the damage.
- Provide supporting records such as photos, receipts, and breeding or registration documents if applicable.
- Step 3: Complete and sign the application
- Review the form carefully and sign it after the investigator completes their portion.
- Provide any additional evidence within seven business days if requested.
- Step 4: Submission and review
- The municipality or investigator submits the completed application to OMAFRA.
- OMAFRA reviews the file and issues a decision.
Processing and Agreement
- The municipality reviews the application for completeness.
- OMAFRA assesses eligibility, evidence, reasonable care, and compensation value.
- A decision is issued within 30 business days after a complete application is received.
- If refused or partially approved, the applicant may request an appeal within 20 business days.
- Approved payments are issued through the municipality, or directly by the Ministry in some cases.
Additional information
- An injured animal or carcass must be present for compensation.
- Claims may require a Reasonable Care Plan after repeated applications.
- Payments may be taxable income and tax forms are issued.
