Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- Owners whose bee colonies, beehives or beehive-related equipment have been damaged by eligible wildlife.
- Sole proprietors, corporations, partnerships or unincorporated associations.
Selection criteria
- The application must be complete.
- There must be sufficient evidence that the bee colony, beehive or beehive-related equipment was damaged by eligible wildlife, not disease, sickness, natural causes or euthanasia.
- Evidence must include complete descriptions and supporting photos.
- There must be evidence that reasonable care efforts have been and are being taken to prevent future predation.
How to apply
- Have the beekeeper complete Step 1 of the application form.
- Fill in your contact information in Step 2.
- Complete Step 3 with damage details, at least three colour photos per damaged beehive, bee colony or piece of beehive-related equipment, and photos of the incident location.
- Complete Step 4 with data collection and Step 5 with predator species identification and site evidence.
- Complete Step 6 on reasonable care, then have the owner sign the application and indicate whether additional evidence will be provided.
- Ensure all sections, required supporting documents and signatures are complete, then email the completed application to OMAFRA’s Veterinary Service Unit administrative service representative within seven business days of concluding your investigation.
Processing and Agreement
- The bee investigator provides a copy of the completed application to the owner and the Ministry’s Program Administrator within seven business days of completing the investigation, along with any additional evidence from the owner.
- The veterinary service unit verifies beekeeper IDs for all applicants before submitting the application to the OWDCP program administrator.
- OMAFRA reviews applications to determine eligibility and assigns values based on the information provided.
- OMAFRA provides the owner with a decision within thirty (30) business days of receiving a complete application.
- OMAFRA pays approved applications for claims involving a beehive, a bee colony or beehive-related equipment.
