Overview

Trois-Rivières’ Revitalization of commercial arteries in the city’s oldest neighborhoods (Stream 1) supports commercial or mixed building owners with grants to revitalize key areas through quality renovations of commercial storefronts, including façade restoration, heritage element reconstruction, signage, and exterior landscaping. Funding covers 50% of eligible costs (60% for heritage buildings), with a maximum of $150,000 for renovation work plus up to $10,000 for eligible landscaping, subject to program limits.

Activities funded

  • Renovation or restoration work to improve the exterior appearance of the building’s main commercial façade (including visible side façades along the commercial artery).
  • Reconstruction of lost or deteriorated heritage architectural elements to enhance the exterior appearance or restore the original building volume.
  • Installation, replacement or upgrading of exterior commercial signage.
  • Landscaping and outdoor space improvements between the building and the municipal right-of-way.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be the owner of a commercial or mixed-use building.
  • The building must be located within the program’s designated application area.
  • The project must involve eligible renovation/restoration work on the main façade (and any side façades visible from the commercial artery), eligible signage work, and/or eligible outdoor space improvements between the building and the municipal right-of-way.
  • The work must be carried out by a contractor holding a valid Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) licence, with labour and work provided by that contractor.
  • The work must start within 3 months after the grant is approved and be completed within 12 months.

  • Owners of commercial buildings.
  • Owners of mixed-use buildings (commercial use and others).

Eligible expenses

  • Costs for renovating or restoring the exterior of the main façade (and visible side façades), including rebuilding missing or damaged heritage elements.
  • Signage work related to the building.
  • Landscaping and exterior site work between the building and the municipal right-of-way.
  • Applicable taxes related to eligible work.
  • Professional fees (architecture and engineering) directly related to the eligible work performed.
  • Building permit costs.
  • Costs to install utility services.
  • Program fee charges (file opening and program administration/follow-up fees).
  • Tenant compensation/indemnities linked to the eligible work.

Eligible geographic areas

  • City of Trois-Rivières, Quebec (within the program’s designated eligible application territory for the city’s oldest neighbourhoods/commercial arteries).

Selection criteria

  • Processing of applications in the order in which they are received, until the funds allocated to the program are exhausted.

Additional information

  • A $100 fee is required to open a file, and an additional $400 fee applies for the administration and follow-up of an accepted application.
