Who is eligible?
- Graduate students at Canadian universities
- Female graduate students for the Gayathri Singh Award for Microsystems Innovation by Women
Eligible expenses
- Conference attendance costs
- Workshop attendance costs
- Visits to a lab or other technical facility inside or outside Canada
Selection criteria
- Each award is judged by three representatives from Canadian industry, academia, and non-for-profit organizations.
- Technical Excellence is scored at 20 points for the Award for Excellence in Microsystems CAD Tools and Design Methodology, the Award for Excellence in Microsystems Fabrication, the Award for Excellence in Quantum Algorithms or Computing, and the Gayathri Singh Award for Microsystems Innovation by Women; it is scored at 15 points for the Brian L. Barge Award for Excellence in Microsystems Integration.
- Presentation Excellence and Visual Effectiveness is scored at 10 points for every award.
- Additional criteria include Application to Industry, Microsystems Integration, and Relevance and contribution to the field of research or microsystems research in Canada, depending on the award.
How to apply
- Prepare a two-page abstract in PDF format.
- Select up to two award categories, with a first choice and a second choice, based on the award criteria.
- Submit the abstract by Monday, October 17, 2025.
Processing and Agreement
- Abstracts are pre-competitive submissions and are not included in the judging process.
- Acceptance notifications are sent after the abstract review.
- Your judging time is provided before the event, and the presentation is public during the judging process.
- Winners are announced immediately after TEXPO.
Additional information
- Applicants may apply for up to two award categories.
- The second-choice category is considered only if the first-choice category is full.
- Acceptance into award categories is based on a first-come basis for those who meet the eligibility criteria.
- Minimum number of entries per category is 4 and maximum is 10.
