BC First Nations Community Equity-Matching Initiative
Overview
The BC First Nations Community Equity-Matching Initiative, administered by the New Relationship Trust in partnership with Tale’awtxw Aboriginal Capital Corporation, aims to support BC First Nation business projects by providing equity-matching funds of up to $25,000. Eligible projects include establishing new businesses, modernizing existing ones, or expanding current operations, with a focus on fostering economic growth within First Nations communities.
Guidelines
To qualify for this grant, BC First Nation community business projects must demonstrate a clear need for equity-matching funds for their proposed initiatives. Eligible costs for funding support include establishing a new business, upgrading existing operations, or expanding current ventures, while ineligible expenses encompass debt refinancing, consolidation, or feasibility studies not directly related to the project's development. The initiative offers a maximum of $25,000 or 25% of project costs, whichever is less, in matched equity per community business, provided that the BC First Nation's equity contribution is in cash. The equity-matching is contingent upon Tale’awtxw Aboriginal Capital Corporation approving a term loan for the community business, thereby encouraging sustainable growth and economic empowerment within BC First Nations.
