Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Only organizations designated as support organizations by Alberta Arts, Culture and Status of Women can apply.
  • Eligible applicants are Alberta-based organizations with a provincewide mandate.
  • Eligible applicants must serve provincewide membership.

Who is not eligible

  • Organizations that have not been designated as support organizations by Alberta Arts, Culture and Status of Women are not eligible.

Eligible expenses

  • Salaries for permanent staff and contracted professionals
  • Administrative and programming fees
  • Marketing and promotional expenses
  • Venue and equipment rentals for events or training
  • Travel expenses related to sector development activities, subject to government rates

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Capital purchases
  • Production or distribution costs for individual magazines, books, screen-based media or music recording
  • Expenses already funded through other government programs
  • Alcohol
  • GST expenses

Selection criteria

  • Applications are evaluated based on financial reporting, outcomes and plans for the new fiscal year.
  • Program staff use objective criteria to confirm that previous grant funds were used as intended.
  • Program staff assess whether plans for the upcoming year demonstrate alignment with program goals and responsible use of funds.
  • Reporting review considers activities and outcomes, performance metrics, grant compliance, alignment with mandate, and sector strengthening.
  • Application review considers financial sustainability, mandate and sector priorities, performance indicators, and capacity building and risk management.

How to apply

  • Log in to the Online Grant Application System (GATE) to begin the application.
  • Complete all required fields in the online system.
  • Submit the required documents through the online system.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed by program staff to confirm eligibility and assess plans for the upcoming year.
  • In some cases, external reviewers may be consulted for additional input.
  • Funding decisions are made after the application has been assessed and the reporting review process is completed.
  • Applicants receive a notification letter from the Minister confirming the approved funding amount.
  • Payments are issued at the start of the Alberta Media Fund fiscal year.

  • Intake runs from October 1 to November 1 annually.
  • Applications are reviewed in two parts: Reporting Review and Application Review.
  • Payments are issued at the start of the Alberta Media Fund fiscal year.
