SAP-RTI application process updated
The SAP-RTI grant page now includes a required self-identification questionnaire in the Research Portal and replaces the previous full-application placeholder with detailed submission instructions. The new instructions add presentation standards, attachment rules, proposal page limits of 4 pages for category 1, 10 pages for category 2, and 15 pages for category 3, plus new requirements for budget justification, quotations, and support letters. The page also clarifies application steps for category 2/3 applicants, including the need to select the NOI, re-validate the eligibility profile, and complete the application through the Research Portal. The program type label also changed from Research Tools to Research Tools and Instruments.

How to apply
- Sign in to the Research Portal and create an application.
- For SAP-RTI categories 2 and 3, submit a notification of intent to apply by the deadline date; an NOI is not required for SAP-RTI category 1.
- Complete the application in the Research Portal, including the NSERC version of the Canadian Common CV for the applicant and co-applicants.
- Click Submit, extract and review the application, and accept the terms and conditions to complete submission.
Processing and Agreement
- Applications are reviewed by the Subatomic Physics Evaluation Section.
- For SAP-RTI category 3 applications, the Section may also receive input from an expert ad hoc committee.
- Applicants submitting SAP-RTI category 3 applications may be invited to make a presentation during the Large Project Day held every year by the Section.
- When you submit your application, it is sent to your research administrator for approval and submission to NSERC; the status changes to Received by administrator and then Received by agency.
