Who is eligible?

  • For-profit SMEs in Canada
  • Not-for-profit organizations
  • Canadian post-secondary institutions and affiliated research institutes
  • Indigenous organizations in Canada

  • Multinational enterprises as Lead or Co-Lead
  • Individuals

Eligible expenses

  • Direct labour, materials, subcontractors, and other direct project costs
  • Eligible overhead within the program limits
  • Prototyping-related direct materials, shipping, and brokerage costs

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Capital equipment purchases
  • Experimental or theoretical work with no direct commercial application
  • Projects already approved or already in progress

  • Commercial opportunity and market potential
  • Advancement of the Canadian semiconductor ecosystem and benefits to Canada
  • Project execution capacity, budget, and likelihood of success

How to apply

  • Step 1: Create a Blackbaud account
    • Go to the FABrIC Challenges Portal.
    • Register using your work email and complete account setup.
  • Step 2: Complete the Expression of Interest
    • Fill out the online EOI form in the portal.
    • Prepare the project overview, budget, and supporting information.
  • Step 3: Upload required attachment
    • Complete and upload the Attestation and Signature form.
  • Step 4: Submit through the portal
    • Submit the complete EOI before the deadline.
    • Wait for notification on whether you are invited to submit a full proposal.

Processing and Agreement

  • EOIs are screened for pass/fail eligibility criteria.
  • Accepted applicants are invited to submit a full proposal.
  • Full proposals are reviewed by an independent expert panel and ranked.
  • Final funding approval is made by the CMC Board.
  • Successful applicants then enter a Project Agreement.
