This fellowship provides nonprofit organizations in Ontario with up to $69,500 to support hosting articling students during a 10-month period. It covers student wages, licensing fees, and related legal work expenses, fostering practical legal training and access to justice.

Activities funded

Hosting an articling student for legal training, covering salary, benefits, licensing fees, and related legal activities.

Eligibility

Registered nonprofit organizations, Ontario-based charities, no access to funds to hire an articling student.

Ontario-based registered charities and nonprofit organizations involved in legal work.

Who is not eligible

Legal Aid Ontario supported clinics are not eligible to apply.

Eligible expenses

Student salary and benefits, licensing fees, work-related expenses such as equipment, research accounts, education courses, legal travel.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

Pursuit of activities unrelated to legal training or not involving the hosting of an articling student.

Evaluation based on the organization’s legal work suitability, community impact, financial need, and capacity to host an articling student.
