Who is eligible?
- Canadian registered non-profit organizations
- Post-secondary institutions
- Non-federal museums or science centres
- Organizations that encourage Indigenous undergraduate students to pursue graduate studies in natural sciences and engineering (NSE)

- Federal departments and agencies
- Federal museums and friends of federal museum societies
- Provincial, territorial, regional and municipal government departments
- Elementary schools, high schools and school boards
- For-profit organizations, foreign institutions, and organizations running one-time, project-specific activities
Eligible expenses
- Salaries and benefits for program delivery staff, except for the salary of the principal applicant
- Program evaluation costs, up to 20% of the grant instalment per year
- Costs of prizes awarded through a fair and open process
- Operational costs related to the promotion of science and engineering, including travel, postage, materials and supplies

- Salaries and stipends for youth participants in the program or activity
- Costs for research
- Costs for substitute teachers
- Scholarships for program participants
Selection criteria
- Excellence of the organization (30%): ability of the organization and collaborators to deliver the program, continuity and sustainability, communication, and financial status.
- Quality of the program (30%): program objectives, program content, focus on the natural sciences and engineering, and originality.
- Impact and reach (40%): quality of interaction, evaluation evidence, added value of the funding, audience profile, geographic reach, transferability, and inclusion of underrepresented groups.
How to apply
- Complete the PromoScience application summary form.
- Submit the application electronically using NSERC’s ICSP secure submission site.
- Combine all parts of the application into a single PDF document.
- Do not submit ZIP files, PDF portfolios, or material sent separately before or after the deadline.
Processing and Agreement
- Eligible applications are peer reviewed by the PromoScience Review Committee.
- NSERC informs applicants electronically of the competition results in mid to late January.
- New grantees can expect their first instalment in February.
- Final reports are mandatory, and progress reports may be required.
- Future instalments or future grants may depend on satisfactory activity reports.
