The "Powering the Future: Solid-State Hydrogen Storage for Military Platforms" grant offers up to $6.75 million in phased development funding to advance innovative hydrogen storage solutions for military ground vehicle decarbonization. Eligible activities include the research, development, prototyping, and field validation of safe, energy-dense, and durable solid-state hydrogen storage technologies.

Financing terms and conditions

  • Up to $250,000 for early-stage development (Technology Readiness Level 1-3) for a period of up to six months.
  • Up to $1.5 million for design phase projects (Technology Readiness Level 4-5) for a period of up to 12 months.
  • Up to $5 million for build phase projects (Technology Readiness Level 6-9) for prototype development and validation.

Eligibility

  • The applicant can be an individual, an academic institution, a not-for-profit organization, a provincial/territorial or municipal government organization, or any industry entity.
  • Federal and provincial crown corporations are not eligible.
  • The proposed project must present an innovative solid-state hydrogen storage solution relevant to military logistics and ground vehicles.

  • Scalability of the solution to ensure refueling time is unaffected as the system grows.
  • Survivability under physical stress, including resistance to torsion, vibration, and kinetic or explosive projectiles.
  • Demonstration of affordability and adaptability compared to current hydrogen storage methods.
