The Participant Funding Program provides financial support to individuals, non-profit organizations, and Indigenous communities to support participation in federal impact assessments. Funding is available at key stages of the assessment process, with up to $8,000 for the planning phase, up to $15,000 for the impact assessment phase, and up to $36,000 when a project is referred to a Review Panel.

Eligible expenses

  • Travel, administrative costs, and legal expert fees.
  • Reporting costs and professional services.
  • Honoraria and ceremonial offerings related to participation.
  • Meals, incidentals, and accommodation related to travel.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Capital expenditures, construction costs, and building renovations.
  • Lost income, salaries and benefits, and general operating costs.
  • Costs duplicated by other public or private funding sources.

How to apply

  • Step 1: Access the application form for the relevant assessment.
  • Step 2: Complete the form and prepare supporting documents.
  • Step 3: Submit the completed application and supporting documents by email to fp-paf@iaac-aeic.gc.ca before the deadline.
  • Step 4: Wait for the funding decision from the Agency.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed by the Agency or a Funding Review Committee.
  • Funding decisions are usually provided one to two months after the deadline.
  • Successful applicants must sign a contribution or grant agreement.
  • Contribution recipients must submit a detailed financial report with supporting invoices or receipts for reimbursement.
