Provincial sport organizations
National sport organizations funded by Sport Canada
Ontario municipalities
Not-for-profit organizations
Indigenous organizations, First Nation, Métis, or Inuit communities

Applicants asking the government to underwrite deficits or other liabilities

Eligible expenses

Project costs directly related to hosting the sport event.
Legacy plan expenses tied to the event.
Event-related activities supported by the approved budget.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

Formal support request costs to the Government of Ontario.
Bid costs for national or international events.
Appearance fees, gifts, gratuities, or recognition items outside the competition.
HST, refundable expenses, alcohol or cannabis-related products, insurance, and audits.
Costs that would create deficit, revenue, or rights fee liabilities for the government.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted through Transfer Payment Ontario, using the Sport Hosting Program application form.
New applicants who have not used Transfer Payment Ontario should get started there; receiving access can take up to five (5) business days.
Returning applicants should log in to their Transfer Payment Ontario account using their My Ontario Account to retrieve their application form and other documents.
Click Submit for Funding and select the Sport Hosting Program.
Upload and submit the complete application electronically through Transfer Payment Ontario.

Processing and Agreement

Applications are checked for eligibility and completeness.
The ministry reviews required documents and due diligence information.
Eligible applications are scored using the Sport Hosting Evaluation Matrix.
Applicants are notified of the outcome within 90 days of submission.
Successful applicants must sign a Province of Ontario funding agreement.
