Overview
The OAC — Literary Organizations: Operating program provides operating support (amount not specified) to Ontario-based, not-for-profit professional literary organizations, excluding book and magazine publishers. It funds ongoing activities that present or promote Canadian literature, engage literary artists in arts education, or support writers in developing their craft, valuing both written and oral literary traditions.

- Activities that help literary artists develop and refine their craft, including structured training or development programs.
Eligibility
- The applicant must be an Ontario-based not-for-profit corporation, or a national not-for-profit corporation with its head office in Ontario.
- The organization must be a professional literary organization whose activities align with presenting, promoting or supporting Canadian literature and literary artists.
- The organization must have at least $75,000 in total revenues in the last fiscal year and in projected revenues for the current and requested years (if not already funded by this program).
- The organization must demonstrate at least two years of sustained, regular and ongoing programming by the application date.
- The organization must have a range of revenue sources and an active board of directors or governing body.
Who is eligible?
- Ontario-based not-for-profit professional literary organizations (excluding book and magazine publishers)
- National not-for-profit professional literary organizations with their head office in Ontario (excluding book and magazine publishers)
Who is not eligible
- Organizations whose primary activity is the distribution of Canadian literature (e.g., wholesalers, distributors, or similar entities focused mainly on literary distribution).
- Organizations whose main business is publishing books and/or magazines, including book and magazine publishers.
- Non-arts organizations whose core mandate is not related to the arts or literary activities.
- Municipalities, including city or town governments and their departments.
- Colleges and universities, including post-secondary educational institutions and their affiliated units.

- Organizations based in the province of Ontario.
- National not-for-profit organizations with their head office located in Ontario.

Confirm eligibility with officer
- If you are a new applicant, contact the program officer to discuss your eligibility.
- Use the contact information provided for the Officer to arrange a discussion.
- Clarify any questions about eligibility criteria before preparing your file.

Set up Nova and CADAC accounts
- Create or update your organizational profile in Nova, the OAC online granting system.
- If you are a new applicant, register for an account with CADAC (Canadian Arts Data / Données sur les arts au Canada).
- Ensure all basic organizational information is accurate and current in both systems.

Prepare financials and documents
- Gather financial and statistical data required for CADAC for the last completed year.
- Prepare financial statements for your organization’s most recently completed fiscal year for upload to CADAC.
- Compile support documents, including a link to your website and samples of recent marketing materials.

Complete application form in Nova
- Complete all required application questions in Nova, following the instructions in the online form.
- Ensure your narrative answers reflect the program priorities and your organization’s ongoing activities.
- Verify that your projected revenues meet the minimum requirements where applicable.

Submit data and statements in CADAC
- Submit your financial and statistical reports through CADAC before the program deadline.
- Upload your financial statements for the last completed year to CADAC as required.
- Confirm that all CADAC entries are complete and consistent with your Nova application.

Submit application in Nova
- Review your full application package in Nova, including uploaded support documents and CADAC references.
- Ensure submission occurs before the stated deadline (March 25, 2025, 1 p.m. ET).
- Submit the completed application in Nova.

Await funding decision
- After submission, wait for the Ontario Arts Council’s assessment process to be completed.
- Grant notification will be available approximately five months after the deadline.
- Monitor your Nova account and communications from OAC for the result.

- The program has been replaced by the new Ontario Arts Operating Fund; applicants should consult that program’s web page for current information.
- Applications are made and managed through Nova, the Ontario Arts Council’s online granting platform.
- Financial and statistical reporting for this program is done via Canadian Arts Data / Données sur les arts au Canada (CADAC).
