Overview
The NGen Advanced Manufacturing Technology Program offers up to $3.2 million per project to support collaborative, industry-led initiatives focused on the development, commercialization, and scaling of transformative advanced manufacturing technologies in Canada. Eligible activities include de-risking, commercialization, and implementation of novel processes or capabilities that drive innovation, productivity, and sustainability within the Canadian manufacturing sector.

Eligibility
- The applicant must be incorporated and have a value-added presence in Canada (beyond a sales office).
- Eligible applicants include for-profit organizations, certain not-for-profit organizations primarily funded by industry, non-federal Crown corporations earning revenue from commercial activities, and Indigenous organizations.
- The project must be structured as a consortium, including a minimum of two unrelated Canadian partners, with at least one being a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME; less than 500 employees globally).
- The applicant organization and project consortium must demonstrate industry collaboration and must have the capacity and resources to complete the proposed project within the designated timeline.
- The project must propose the development and application of a novel, world-class advanced manufacturing technology or process innovation that is collaborative, transformative, applied, and leaves a lasting legacy in the Canadian advanced manufacturing ecosystem.

- For-profit companies incorporated in Canada with value-added presence such as R&D or manufacturing
- Not-for-profit organizations that facilitate and fund research and development on behalf of the ecosystem, primarily funded by private-sector or industry organizations
- Non-federal Crown corporations with funding from commercial activities
- Indigenous organizations
Who is not eligible
- Publicly funded not-for-profit organizations (except those primarily funded by the private sector or industry organizations).
- Post-secondary institutions.
- Federal Crown corporations and federal government departments or agencies.
- International companies and organizations without a registered business presence in Canada.
- Companies whose projects are solely research-only, early-stage R&D, routine upgrades, or focused exclusively on business models, marketing, or organizational change with no direct link to transformative manufacturing outcomes.
Eligible expenses
- Labour costs related to project activities.
- Subcontracting expenses (with a maximum of 30% of the total eligible project costs).
- Acquisition cost of new equipment required for the project (up to 20% of the partner’s eligible costs for SMEs; up to 10% for non-SME partners).
- Material costs necessary for project research and development (not for subsidizing production).
- Product development, testing, and validation expenses directly supporting project goals (limited to 15% of the funding allocation).

- Companies incorporated in Canada with a value-added presence in Canada beyond a sales office.
Selection criteria
- Overall opportunity addressed by the project (10 points): Assessment of the project's motivation, objectives, challenges, and collaborative approach.
- Transformative nature of the project (10 points): Evaluation of how the project advances novel, world-class manufacturing capabilities and confers competitive advantage.
- Market potential (10 points): Analysis of the market addressed, size, barriers, differentiation, and anticipated benefits.
- Commercialization plan (10 points): Clarity and feasibility of how project results will reach market, including Intellectual Property management.
- Expected economic benefits (10 points): Measure of the direct and indirect economic value, including job creation, for consortium partners and beyond.
How to apply

Become an NGen member
- Register for a free NGen membership through the NGen website
- Ensure your organization meets NGen eligibility requirements
- Prepare to access the member portal for project registration

Register project in NGen portal
- Access the NGen member portal and create a new project registration
- Provide basic information about your project and consortium partners
- Initiate early registration to allow for pre-screening and support

Complete intake and screening
- Complete the Application Agreement and confirm compliance with eligibility rules
- Describe the project purpose and collaborative structure
- Estimate project costs and confirm willingness to invest
- Provide details on financial means and project management capabilities

Undergo financial due diligence
- Submit financial documents and information for Financial Due Diligence (FDD)
- Ensure all project partners demonstrate financial capacity to deliver the project
- Address any NGen requests for additional financial details

Complete and submit full application
- Prepare and complete a full project application responding to all ten required questions
- Upload appendices: Project Plan, Risk Register, and Intellectual Property Tables
- Complete financial workbooks and milestone register in the portal
- Input job, economic, and academic engagement details

Application under review
- Final application is submitted by the consortium before the deadline
- Wait for independent assessment and notification of results

Finalize contracting documents
- If selected, enter the Contracting phase with NGen
- Finalize project documents as needed based on assessor feedback
- Execute Collaboration Agreement and Master Project Agreement
Additional information
- NGen membership is required before applying; registration is free and available online.
- A non-refundable administration fee equal to 5% of the total project cost must be paid to NGen as a condition for funding.
- Applicants receive feedback from the assessment process, including recommendations to strengthen their proposal if not approved.
