Who is eligible?

• Ontario-based individual professional artists.
• Ad hoc groups and collectives.
• Incorporated not-for-profit organizations.
• Ontario-based, Canadian-owned book or magazine publishers.
• Ontario-based colleges, universities, municipalities, school boards, and First Nations or Indigenous-administered schools.

Who is not eligible

• Student or academic publications.
• Work created as part of employment, unless specific professional exceptions apply.
• Children’s picture books.
• Ghost-written or uncredited books.
• Books for educational or academic programs.

Eligible expenses

• Artist fees for time spent on the project.
• Research costs, including travel, accommodation, resources, and research assistance.
• Childcare and dependant care needed for participation.
• Editorial costs before submission to an agent or publisher.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

• Writing for film, radio, television, theatre, or interactive digital media.
• Manuscript evaluation, editorial services, and publication expenses.
• Post-publication or post-recording expenses.
• Major capital expenditures and major equipment purchases.

Eligible geographic areas

• Ontario.

• Applications are reviewed after the deadline through OAC’s peer assessment process.
• Applicants are notified by email when results are available in Nova, about four and a half months after the deadline.
• Successful applicants must complete required Nova confirmation steps before payment is issued.
• Grant cheques are sent by regular mail.
• A final report must be submitted in Nova when the project is complete.

• Applications are available about two months before the deadline.
• Final reports are required if funded.
