Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Canadian-owned and controlled production companies.
  • Ontario-based private sector or for-profit production companies incorporated in Ontario or federally and registered in Ontario.
  • Ontario resident producers who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents and have the required Producer credit for a feature film or digital series.

Who is not eligible

  • Single-purpose production companies.

Eligible expenses

  • Option fees, including those for literary work.
  • Research costs.
  • Writer, story editor, and story consultant fees.
  • Community or diversity consultant fees, casting fees and expenses, and demo reel.
  • Sustainability research and planning for an environmentally-friendly set; producer's fees and corporate overhead; legal and administrative fees; location scouting.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Costs supported through other Ontario Creates programs or initiatives.
  • Projects intended for broadcast television.

Eligible geographic areas

  • Ontario, with production projects required to be shot in Ontario, excluding coproductions and factual content.

How to apply

  • Submit the application through the Ontario Creates Online Application Portal (OAP) at apply.ontariocreates.ca.
  • Before starting an application, register the company’s corporate information with the OAP if it is not already registered.
  • To start an application, select Start New Application and follow the directions to access the application form.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed by Ontario Creates for eligibility and completeness; incomplete or ineligible applications are not further evaluated and applicants are notified via the OAP.
  • Eligible applications with all required documents are reviewed and assessed by a jury of industry professionals and/or Ontario Creates.
  • Production applicants may provide a brief project update one week before the jury meeting, with no other opportunity to update supporting documents or application elements.
  • Decisions are communicated within 16 weeks of the deadline.
  • Successful applicants must accept and sign a conditional award letter within one month of notification.
