Overview
Ontario’s Home Renovation Savings Program offers rebates of up to **$12,000** to help homeowners improve home energy efficiency and comfort. Eligible activities include energy-efficiency upgrades such as insulation, windows and doors, air sealing, heat pumps and heat pump water heaters, smart thermostats, solar panels and battery storage, and appliances (some upgrades may require a home energy assessment and/or bundling).

- Complete a home energy assessment and implement two or more energy-efficiency upgrades as a bundled renovation project.
- Improve home insulation.
- Upgrade windows and doors to energy-efficient models.
- Install an eligible heat pump system (cold climate air source or ground source) or a heat pump water heater.
- Install solar panels and battery storage.
Eligibility
- The applicant must be located in Ontario and be a homeowner participating in the Home Renovation Savings Program.
- The project must involve eligible home energy-efficiency upgrades (e.g., insulation, windows and doors, air sealing, heat pumps, smart thermostats, solar panels/battery storage, appliances).
- To access bundled rebates, the applicant must complete a home energy assessment and complete two or more upgrades.
- For single-upgrade rebates, the applicant can complete eligible upgrades without a home energy assessment.
- Where applicable, installed equipment must meet program product requirements (e.g., ENERGY STAR® models for windows/doors/heat pump water heaters; heat pumps listed on Natural Resources Canada’s qualified products list).
Eligible expenses
- Home energy assessment costs (rebated up to $600).
- Insulation upgrade costs (rebated up to $7,700).
- Window and door upgrade costs (rebated $100 per rough opening).
- Air sealing upgrade costs (rebated up to $250).
- Qualified ENERGY STAR® heat pump water heater purchase and installation costs (rebated $500).
- Cold climate air source heat pump purchase and installation costs (rebated up to $7,500; amount depends on size installed).
- Ground source heat pump purchase and installation costs (rebated up to $12,000; amount depends on size installed).
- Smart thermostat purchase and installation costs (rebated $75).
- Solar panels and battery storage system costs (rebated up to $10,000).
- Eligible appliance purchase costs (rebated up to $200).

How to apply

Check program details

- Confirm your home heating type (natural gas or electricity) and intended upgrades

Choose your upgrade pathway
- Decide between the “Bundle and save” option (with an energy assessment) or “Single upgrades” (no assessment)
- Plan whether you will complete two or more upgrades (bundle) or only one eligible upgrade (single)

Complete energy assessment
- Complete a home energy assessment if you are bundling upgrades
- Keep documentation of the assessment for your rebate claim

Confirm upgrade eligibility
- Select eligible products where required (e.g., ENERGY STAR® models for windows, doors and heat pump water heaters)
- If installing a heat pump, choose a model from Natural Resources Canada’s qualified products list

Complete your upgrades
- Complete the selected energy-efficiency upgrades (single or bundled)
- For bundled rebates, complete at least two upgrades after the assessment

Submit rebate application
- Submit your rebate claim through the Home Renovation Savings Program website
- Include required proof for the upgrades and, if applicable, the energy assessment
Additional information
- The program is delivered through a partnership between Save on Energy and Enbridge Gas, supported by the Government of Ontario.
- Home energy-efficiency rebates under this program were announced on January 7 as part of a broader $10.9 billion Ontario investment in energy efficiency.
