Funding supports Indigenous-led initiatives advancing HIV and viral hepatitis health equity, with funding capped at a maximum of 33% of the organization’s annual revenue. It funds education, peer navigation, holistic healing supports, and capacity-building activities aligned with Indigenous ways of knowing and doing.
Activities funded
- Indigenous-led education initiatives on HIV and viral hepatitis symptoms, transmission drivers, and available care and treatments to support improved screening and diagnosis
- Peer support and navigation initiatives that help Indigenous people access, navigate, and continue HIV and viral hepatitis care in safe environments
- Holistic healing initiatives that enhance capacity to deliver HIV and viral hepatitis care alongside traditional care addressing physical, mental, social, and spiritual needs
- Capacity-building initiatives to strengthen staff skills, infrastructure, and administrative support to sustain and expand HIV and viral hepatitis services

- Organization can develop, implement, and evaluate programs.

How to apply
- Step 1: Complete initial application form
- Download the initial application form.
- Complete the form with initial information about your organization and planned initiative.
- Step 2: Submit initial application
- Email the completed form to the Indigenous Health Program Coordinator.
- Step 3: Proceed to next phase (if eligible)
- Await confirmation on whether you are eligible to move forward to the next phase.
- Complete the remainder of the application process to access the requested level of funding.
Processing and Agreement
- Submitted initial application forms are reviewed to determine eligibility to move forward to the next phase.
- The initial form is used to assess whether the requested level of funding can be considered.
- Organizations that qualify to move forward are eligible to receive funding, subject to successfully completing the remainder of the application process.

- Initiative is co-created between CAAN Communities, Alliances & Networks and Gilead Sciences Canada.
- The program is positioned as supporting Indigenous autonomy in health and well-being, including traditional medicines and healing practices within communities.
