Who is eligible?
- Canadian organizations
- Not-for-profit organizations, such as charitable and volunteer organizations, professional associations, and non-governmental organizations
- Indigenous organizations, governments, boards, commissions, communities, associations and authorities
- Local organizations such as community associations and groups, seniors’ and youth groups, and service clubs
- Municipal and local governments; research, academic and educational institutions; for-profit organizations, such as small businesses, companies, corporations, industry associations and agricultural organizations, with less than 100 employees
Eligible expenses
- Human resource costs, including salaries and benefits; contractors required to perform activities related to the project.
- Management and professional service costs such as accounting, monitoring, communications, official language translation, Indigenous languages translation, audit and legal charges or fees.
- Hospitality, travel and venues/conference expenses directly attributed to carrying out the project; costs associated with an Indigenous participation or ceremony; monetary honoraria offered to Indigenous Elders and/or Knowledge Keepers.
- Materials and supplies costs; printing, production and distribution costs; equipment purchases or rentals; vehicle rental and operational costs.
- A reasonable share of overhead and/or administrative costs directly attributed to the carrying out of the project; costs associated with land securement; any GST/HST that is not reimbursed by Canada Revenue Agency and any PST not reimbursable by the provinces.

Selection criteria
- All completed applications received by the deadline will go through a three-stage review process.
- Administrative review for project eligibility.
- Technical review by subject-matter experts to confirm the validity of the issues and the scientific and technical feasibility of projects.
- Final review based on the project’s link to fresh water, evidence of strong community involvement/water literacy components, feasibility of the project’s impact, budget, results and activities, continuation of project activities and benefits, and engagement and partnership with priority groups.
- Eligible projects will be evaluated on the quality and completeness of the application.
