Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Charitable, nonprofit entities with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3), and where appropriate, Section 170(c)
  • Canadian organizations, on an invitational basis

Who is not eligible

  • Private foundations
  • Individuals, unless under an approved educational scholarship program
  • Fraternal organizations or civic organizations
  • Private or public foundations and endowments

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Most capital and equipment campaigns
  • Sponsorships, including auctions, dinners, tickets, marketing or advertising, and annual fundraising events
  • Loans, debt retirement, or operational deficits
  • Travel expenses or trips
  • Research for social, economic, academic, medical, or scientific purposes

Eligible geographic areas

  • The operating areas of the Washington Companies, including Montana, Kent WA, Spokane WA, Rochester WA, Boise ID, Pocatello ID, Jerome ID, Eugene OR, Portland OR, Vancouver BC, and Victoria BC
  • Programs in the United States and the general operating areas of Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia

Selection criteria

  • Consistency with the DPWF mission: “Investing in People to Improve the Quality of Their Lives”
  • Ability to provide recipients with life skills or meet a basic societal need
  • Focus on economically and socially disadvantaged populations, especially youth or those with special needs
  • Program recipients reside within the operating areas of the Washington Companies
  • Evidence of local maintenance of effort, partnerships, and leverage of other private or public resources

  • If eligible, proceed to the online Application Form.
  • Submit the Application Form through the online application process.

Processing and Agreement

  • After submitting the application form, applicants are notified within 90 days of the status of the application.
  • If invited to submit the online application, Canadian organizations are notified within 90 days from submission of their letter of inquiry.
  • Grant reports must be filed when grant funds have been expended, or no later than one year after receipt of the grant.
