ImpAct Internships Grant Summary
This grant program aims to support Canadian employers in creating impactful work opportunities that contribute to Canada's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda by hiring youth disproportionately affected by COVID-19. Employers can receive up to $10,000 towards the salary expenses of interns who work on meaningful SDG-aligned initiatives.
ImpAct Internships Grant Detailed Overview
The ImpAct Internships program provides funding of up to $10,000 to support employers in hiring interns who will work on projects aligned with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Employers are encouraged to create employment opportunities for youth groups that have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, such as women, youth who have not completed high school, and those not in education, employment, or training for at least 6 months.
Employers must demonstrate their commitment to responding to three or more Canadian SDG ambitions identified in the 2030 National Strategy and helping youth transition into the labor force. Eligible employers include post-secondary education institutions, indigenous organizations, small- or medium-sized enterprises, large corporations, NGOs, not-for-profit organizations, governments, and more.
The eligible internships should last between 3 to 6 months, be full-time (a minimum of 30 hours per week), and explicitly advance SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) along with three other SDGs. Interns are required to be between the ages of 15-30, Canadian citizens or permanent residents, legally allowed to work, and available for a full-time internship. They should not have been employees of the hiring employer before the start of their internship.
The program supports activities that promote sustainability, such as organizing food drives, educating others on healthy practices, implementing conservation campaigns, developing business plans for sustainable products and services, and more. Employers will go through an application selection process, and once approved, they can receive funding to cover the intern's salary expenses. The program aims to provide valuable work experience to youth while advancing Canada's SDG agenda.
