The Call for Projects on the Procurement & Conditioning of Forest Biomass for Bioenergy Production provides a maximum funding of $200,000, aiming to support innovative industrial initiatives focused on the sustainable supply, transformation, and optimization of forest biomass for renewable energy production in Quebec. Eligible activities include conditioning of biomass, such as grinding, chipping, drying, and densification, to enhance energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
Financing terms and conditions
- The CRIBIQ contribution to private enterprises is capped at a maximum of 50% of eligible expenses.
- The cumulative public financial aid cannot exceed 75% of the total project cost.
- The maximum financial aid provided by CRIBIQ is $200,000 per project.
- Eligible expenses must be deemed essential, directly linked to the project's execution, and carried out in Quebec.
- All expenses incurred before the submission of a duly completed application are not eligible for reimbursement.
- Financial backing includes direct or indirect assistance from Quebec and Canadian government ministries, agencies, and state enterprises, as well as municipal entities.
- The CRIBIQ management fee is 8.5% of the total CRIBIQ contribution.
Eligible projects & activities
- Structuring projects aimed at conditioning forest biomass for use in plants, optimizing biomass supply costs before its final conversion into bioenergy and/or bioproducts.
- Projects that demonstrate innovation and involve technological uncertainties or risks.
- Projects exceeding Technical Readiness Level (TRL) 3 and aiming to reach at least TRL 7 by project's end.
- Projects offering solutions to industrial, environmental, and societal challenges in Quebec.
- Projects that create economic value for Quebec's economy and participating Quebec businesses.

Eligibility criteria of the Call for Projects on the Procurement & Conditioning of Forest Biomass for Bioenergy Production program
- The applicant must be a legally constituted business or group of businesses under the laws of the Government of Quebec.
- The applicant can be an organization legally constituted under the laws of the Government of Quebec or Canada, including non-profit organizations, cooperatives, federations, or industrial associations.
- The applicant must conduct production and/or research and development (R&D) activities in Quebec within the forest products industry sector.
Who is eligible?
- Companies or groupings of companies legally established under the laws of the Quebec government
- Organizations legally established under the laws of the Quebec or Canadian government, including non-profits, cooperatives, and industrial federations or associations
Who is not eligible
- Organizations belonging to the public, parapublic, and institutional sectors.
- Companies registered in the Register of Ineligible Enterprises for Public Contracts (RENA) and those in default of obligations to the Government of Quebec.
Eligible expenses
- Salaries directly linked to R&D, production, and pre-commercialization for employees residing in Quebec.
- Professional fees for specialists and expert consultants.
- Costs from companies or organizations acting as subcontractors, including public research institutes (universities, CCTT, government research centers).
- Essential travel and accommodation expenses for project completion.
- Materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Expenses for knowledge dissemination platforms and project results.
- Expenses for obtaining and protecting intellectual property.
- Certification and homologation fees required for commercialization.
- Costs for preparing commercialization, demonstration, or technology showcase plans.
- Market test costs.
- Outreach costs for recruiting a commercialization agent.
- Costs related to developing a distribution network.
- Direct costs for promotional documents.
- Registration fees for exhibitions and trade shows.
- Implementation costs for a commercialization plan.
- Costs reimbursed to users for conducting promotional and demonstration activities on-site.
- Production costs for external audit reports validating all eligible expenses incurred and paid.
- Costs for purchasing or conducting various studies aimed at commercialization (feasibility studies, market studies, opportunity studies).
- CRIBIQ management fees (8.5% of the total contribution from CRIBIQ).
- Techno-economic and/or feasibility studies.

- Write a detailed request including the information required by the submitter's guide.
- Include details on the innovation, commercialization potential, and economic and environmental impacts.

- Submit the detailed application by June 11, 2025.
- Ensure that all mandatory documentation is complete and accurate.
Additional information
- The CRIBIQ charges management fees amounting to 8.5% of the total CRIBIQ contribution.
- The private contribution from companies must cover at least 25% of eligible expenses.
- The maximum cumulative public aid for the project is up to 75% of the total project cost, including tax credits and other financial sources from both Quebec and Canadian governments, as well as municipal entities.
