Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Applicants who are not of Indigenous ancestry.
  • Teams without a single artist representative.

  • Concept sketch fee for selected finalists.

Selection criteria

  • Statement of interest and connection to the project theme (30%).
  • Strength of submitted past work (40%).
  • Uniqueness and public appeal (20%).
  • Ability to complete the work on time (10%).

How to apply

  • Step 1: Prepare the application document
    • Combine all application materials into a single document.
    • Keep the document to 10 pages or fewer.
  • Step 2: Assemble required content
    • Include a statement of interest.
    • Add up to 10 images of previous original artwork.
    • Include a CV or bio with contact information and references.
  • Step 3: Submit by email
    • Email the single document to rap@waterloo.ca.
    • Submit before March 31, 2026 at 11:59 pm.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed after the deadline.
  • Finalists are selected to create concept designs on a bus layout template.
  • Final designs are displayed anonymously and may be voted on by the community.
  • The finalists are notified of the design result.

Additional information

  • The selected artist will be paid $5,750 plus HST, if applicable.
  • Up to three finalists may be selected to develop concept sketches.
  • Each finalist will receive $200 for the concept sketch stage.
  • The artwork will be used for one year across regional and municipal communications.
