Who is eligible?

• Canadian university researchers eligible to receive NSERC funds.
• Academic co-applicants eligible for NSERC funding.
• College faculty as co-applicants.
• Adjunct professors whose primary employment is in Canada outside the university sector.

Who is not eligible

• Organizations outside the university research applicant profile.
• Researchers who are not eligible to receive NSERC funds.
• Applicants proposing secret research.
• Applicants proposing contract research.

Eligible expenses

• Direct research costs, including salaries for students, postdoctoral researchers, technicians, and research professionals.
• Materials and supplies needed for the project.
• Collaboration and knowledge mobilization activities linked to the project.
• Project-related equipment, if essential and incremental.
• Project management costs up to 10% of total direct research costs.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

• Secret research.
• Contract research.
• Purchases from partner organizations using NSERC funds or partner cash contributions.
• Travel and subsistence costs for partner organization personnel.
• Expenses incurred by collaborators, including their travel-related costs.

• Step 1: Prepare the letter of intent
  • Complete the Alliance Quantum grants LOI template.
  • Prepare the personal data form with CCV attachment for the applicant and co-applicants.
• Step 2: Submit the letter of intent
  • Log in to NSERC’s online system.
  • Create a new Form 101 and select the Quantum technology development and adoption call.
  • Submit the LOI before the deadline.
• Step 3: Prepare the full application
  • If the LOI is accepted, complete the full Form 101 application in NSERC’s system.
  • Complete the proposal template and required supporting forms.
  • Submit risk assessment and STRAC attestation forms when required.
• Step 4: Submit the full application
  • Upload all required documents through NSERC’s online system.
  • Submit the application before the full application deadline.

• NSERC first completes an administrative assessment of the full application.
• Applications then undergo peer review and merit assessment.
• National security risk assessment may apply for private-sector partnerships.
• Funding decisions are made competitively, based on merit and risk assessment where applicable.
• If approved, an award letter is issued with the grant terms and conditions.

• Applications are reviewed through a competitive peer-review process.
• A research agreement on intellectual property is recommended after approval.
• Funding decisions are expected by the end of March 2027.
• Subsequent instalments depend on continued need and compliance with award conditions.
