Overview
The Agricultural Clean Technology Program – Adoption Stream provides non-repayable funding of up to $2 million for projects that support the adoption of clean technologies in the agriculture and agri-food sector. This program aims to reduce greenhouse gas, fertilizer, and methane emissions by supporting the purchase and installation of eligible commercial clean technologies and equipment upgrades.

Activities funded
- Purchase and installation of energy-efficient, low-emissions equipment for agricultural operations.
- Implementation of clean energy technologies, such as solar or geothermal systems, to power farms and agricultural facilities.
- Adoption of precision agriculture solutions, including technologies for optimizing fertilizer application and reducing input use.
- Introduction of methane reduction technologies for livestock operations, such as novel feed processing or precision feed systems, if commercially available.
- Deployment of bioeconomy solutions to convert agricultural waste and by-products into energy or bio-products, including improved manure management technologies.
Eligibility
- The applicant must be a for-profit organization such as a business, corporation, individual/sole proprietorship, cooperative, partnership, or Indigenous group.
- The applicant must be a Canadian entity and/or incorporated in Canada.
- The applicant must have secured its portion of financial contributions for the project before applying, according to the program's cost-share ratios.
- The applicant must submit only one application (including subsidiaries) over the life of the program (2021-2026).
- The applicant must be a legal entity capable of entering into legally binding agreements.

- Individuals or sole proprietorships operating agricultural businesses
- Co-operatives or partnerships involved in agriculture
- Indigenous groups engaged in agricultural activities

- Academic institutions, including universities, colleges, and researchers
- Crown corporations
- Federal government departments and agencies

Eligible expenses
- Purchase and installation of capital assets required for the project.
- Salaries and benefits related specifically to installation activities.
- Fees for contracted professional or specialized services (such as consultants or experts) necessary for technology implementation.
- Project-related travel expenses directly linked to installation of supported technologies or equipment (economy rates for transportation, accommodation, meals, and incidentals).
- Other direct project costs, including translation, permits, rental or lease of equipment/machinery, goods and services, shipping and transportation (including freight), and materials or consumables essential to undertake the project.
Eligible geographic areas
- Businesses incorporated or established in Canada.
- Organizations based in any Canadian province or territory.
Selection criteria
- Degree to which the proposed activities, expected results, and outcomes support the program's objectives and priorities.
- Demonstrated and measurable reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG), fertilizer, and/or methane emissions, and other environmental co-benefits.
- All sources of project funding are identified and secured before application.
- Eligibility, reasonableness, and necessity of proposed activities and expenditures to achieve project objectives.
- Applicant's capacity (technical, financial, managerial) and track record to successfully complete the project and report on outcomes.
How to apply
- Step 1: Prepare Application Materials
- Download and complete the official application form (PDF) from the program website.
- Complete the Signature of Applicant Authorized Representative Form if not e-signing the application.
- Gather proof of secured financing (such as term sheets, bank statements, confirmation of funds availability, or attestation from a financial institution).
- Step 2: Submit Initial Application
- Attach the completed application form, Signature of Applicant Authorized Representative Form (if applicable), and proof of financing.
- Email the documents to aafc.act-a-p3-tpa-a-p3.aac@agr.gc.ca.
- Step 3: Submission Confirmation and Further Documentation
- Receive an automated acknowledgement email confirming your submission; retain this for your records.
- If selected for full assessment after the intake closes, provide additional documents within 15 business days of the request. Required documents may include:
- Certificate or Articles of Incorporation (for incorporated organizations)
- Recent financial statements (not required for individuals)
- Quotes, estimates, and contracts for budgeted project costs
- Environmental Farm Plan Certificate (if applicable)
- Project endorsement/Letter of Support (if applicable)
- Organizational chart and corporate structure diagram (if applicable)
- Step 4: Application Assessment
- The program reviews your application for eligibility, completeness, and alignment with program priorities.
- Respond promptly to any follow-up requests from the program for clarification or supplementary information.
- Step 5: Notification of Decision
- Receive a notification letter with approval or rejection of your application.
- If approved, the letter will indicate the level of funding and any applicable conditions.
- If approved, work with the program representative to finalize and enter into a contribution agreement.
Additional information
- All projects must be completed by March 31, 2026.
- Quebec-based applicants may be subject to the M-30 Act and must demonstrate compliance if applicable.
- Recipients may be required to acknowledge Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s support in public communications in both official languages.
- The frequency and content of required progress and performance reports will be specified in the contribution agreement based on project and recipient risk levels.
